Abstract
In Sri Aurobindo's vision of the ongoing evolution of consciousness the psychic being has a prominent place. In 1972 the Mother wrote that it is through the psychic being that the supramental consciousness will manifest itself. This presentation will focus on the development and qualities of the psychic being and its role in the transformation of human nature.

Presenter: Neeltje Huppes was born in the Netherlands. After post graduation in the sixties, she taught in a progressive school and at a young age became a member of a special Commission set up by the Dutch Government to revamp education in Secondary schools. Her search for in depth innovation led her to Sri Aurobindo and The Mother. The urge to live in India increased and in the seventies she came to Pondicherry. She lived for fifteen years in the Sri Aurobindo Ashram-Delhi Branch where she founded, together with Matthijs Cornelissen, a Research Center for Integral Education and Human Values, called Mirambika. As envisaged by Sri Aurobindo and the Mother, Integral Education is a system of education that is guided by the soul, or rather the psychic being. Mirambika includes at present a model school and a 3 year teacher training programme with emphasis on self-study and self-awareness. The year 1992 brought her back to Pondicherry where she is presently teaching History in the Sri Aurobindo International Centre of Education. She has given many workshops on Integral Education for teachers at school and University level, and wrote Psychic Education, a Workbook, SAES, New-Delhi, 2001.
