Haridas Chaudhuri Lectures

The Haridas Chaudhuri lecture series are selections from nearly 500 lectures delivered by CIIS founder Dr. Haridas Chaudhuri from 1950s until mid-1970s at the Cultural Integration Fellowship in San Francisco. Dr. Haridas Chaudhuri (1913-1975), was a philosopher, educator, and humanist from Bengal who was invited by Frederic Spiegelberg of Stanford University to join the staff of the newly formed American Academy of Asian Studies in San Francisco in 1951. Prior to coming to the United States, Dr. Chaudhuri was a member of the educational service of the Government of West Bengal, and the Chair of the department of philosophy at Krishnagar College, Bengal. Upon his arrival in the United States, Dr. Chaudhuri began giving talks to interested groups of persons on philosophy, religion, and the practical applications of spiritual resources to life in the contemporary Western world. In addition, he was also teaching at the American Academy, lecturing on occasions at Stanford University and San Francisco State College, participating in panel discussions by faculty members of the Academy that were broadcast from radio station KPFA in Berkeley. Soon after his arrival in San Francisco in 1951 Dr. Chaudhuri and his wife Bina established the Cultural Integration Fellowship ( http://culturalintegrationfellowship.org/ ), from which emerged an educational branch later to become California Institute of Integral Studies. Dr. Chaudhuri appeared at numerous international events and conferences and recorded over 500 lectures on a wide range of topics bridging the traditional Asian spiritual wisdom with modern academic topics. He is the author of over a dozen books and dozens of articles in English.
